This time I guess me and my husband made the best planning for our weekend getaway from Delhi, that is to visit the holy and most famous Shrine in the world – “Amrit Sarovar, popularly known as the Golden Temple”.
Though Amritsar is an all season destination, but I believe that the best time to visit Amritsar is from November to March when the weather is pleasant. The city faces extreme temperatures during summer and during monsoon the city witnesses heavy rainfall.
We took up our stay near the Golden Temple. It was a Sunday morning, and we started our day with a visit to the famous Golden Temple. As we were approaching towards the Temple, a glance of it was so mesmerizing that I could not wait any longer to touch the holy shrine.
The Golden Temple runs the biggest Langar or community kitchen in the world. Therefore me and my husband also took the benefit of eating thr Prasad (Langar).
As you come out of the Gurudwaara, you would see a market known as the “Guru Bazaar” famous for – Kirpans, Swords and Kada’s (steel bracelets) and the famous colourful Punjabi Juttis, which is a must buy if you are fond of footwears.Hall Bazaar is famous for vibrant colors salwar-kameez, patiyala salwaars and colorful Phulkaari Dupattas (Phulkaari Embroidery).
Other Attraction : Jallianwala Bagh is the evidence of the massacre in which British opened fire on unarmed Indians which left 379 dead and over 1200 injured.
if you wish to have authentic Punjabi delicacies like parathas, chicken tikka, tandoori chicken and lassi you must try the local dhabas where tasty meals are served at a very nominal price.
The experience of the trip was just indescribable and overwhelming. I’m sure once you take the first step to the Temple, your heart will be filled with positive energy as mine, all your senses will attain peace and you will be definitely moved by listening to the live Gurbani Kirtan.
